Civil War buffs will not want to miss the Carthage Civil War Museum. The museum presents artifacts and information about the Battle of Carthage and the Civil War in southwest Missouri. The focal point is a 7 by 15 foot mural painted by local Carthage artist, Andy Thomas. The mural features battle action on the courthouse square. Also featured are mini-displays on Belle Starr, African-American and Native American contributions to the war and a diorama of the Battle of Carthage. Open Tue-Sat 8:30-5 and Sun 1-5; closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
