artCentral is a nonprofit organization with the mission to promote, exhibit, teach and foster the appreciation of artists and fine arts in Carthage and surrounding communities. Home to artCentral since 1989, Hyde House was built at the turn of the century, and given to the community by Katherine Hyde. Within this three story historic home there are two large Downstairs Main Galleries, the Sandy Higgins Upstairs Members Gallery, a vintage kitchen and pantry, one Classroom, a Board Room and Gift Boutique, the DirectorCurator’s StudioOffice, as well as the Sally Armstrong Library which houses a growing collection of three hundred volumes of art books and media. The former carriage house, now converted to the Robin Putnam Pottery House, is fully equipped with kilns and wheels for use by Artist Members. A spacious classroom is on the second floor. As a non-profit art organization, artCentral offers admission-free Exhibitions, Receptions and Events. Also available are Classes, Workshops and summer artCamp for Kids. Hyde House and the quiet, tree-canopied campus are available for indoor and outdoor use, offering parking on the street and in the lot on site, an equipped kitchen, tents, tables and chairs. The facility accommodates up to 200 people. artCentral is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors and by volunteer advisors and is sustained by the time, talents and generosity of artCentral Members and Friends including Artists, Donors, Patrons, Benefactors, Sustainers, local and area Businesses and Supporters, Grantors and Underwriters.
