There are always plenty of exciting places to visit in Carthage, but some events don’t happen every day. If you want to attend these upcoming activities and fun festivals, mark your calendars now. Whether you get to enjoy Carthage year-round or you’ll be stopping by for a summer trip, you won’t want to miss out on these exciting events. 1. April 28, 2012—Rockin’ the Route from The Southwest Missouri Stang Gang
On April 28th, the Southwest Missouri Stang Gang presents Rockin’ the Route, its fourth annual car, truck, and motorcycle show at Kellogg Lake. Registration opens at 8am. At 2pm, the car parade will start at Kellogg Lake and head down Route 66. From there, it will continue south on Main to roundabout and north on Grand back to Kellogg Lake. Visitors will also enjoy live music, food, a silent auction, and raffle prizes. The Southwest Missouri Stang Gang wil give away awards and trophies to cars in categories like Best of Show and Best Mustang. For more information, visit www.swmosg.com.
2. May 5, 2012—Master Gardeners Plant Sale at Powers Museum and Citywide Garage Sale
On May 5th, there are two special events happening in Carthage. First, the Ozark Gateway Master Gardeners Plant Sale takes place from 8am to 2pm at Powers Museum. Proceeds from the sale go toward maintenance, development, and landscaping of public and charitable gardens in Jasper County, as well as assistance for the Master Gardeners’ helpline, seminars, and community outreach efforts. Choose from an assortment of healthy, affordable plants, including annuals, bulbs, herbs, ornamental grasses, perennials, seeds, shrubs, trees, and vegetable and flower plants.
The Carthage City Wide Garage Sale also takes place on May 5th, sponsored by the Carthage Press. If you’re interested in selling, you can pick up a $25 City Wide Package from Carthage Press that includes everything you’ll need to get started and to be included on the map. To hunt for bargains or to search for a unique treasure, pick up a copy of the garage sale map listed in the May 3rd and May 4th editions of The Carthage Press.
3. June 1st-2nd—Carthage Historic Downtown Art Walk
Without a doubt, Art Walk is becoming a favorite event for Carthage residents. This quarterly celebration takes place on the Historic Carthage Square, and is a wonderful opportunity to see exhibits and displays from all sorts of talented artists. Whether you bring a date, a group of friends, or the whole family, everyone will enjoy the artistic displays, live music, delicious food, and fun activities. 4. July 4, 2012—City of Carthage Independence Day Celebration
If you’ll be in Carthage for the Fourth of July, be sure to catch the annual Independence Day Celebration in Municipal Park. This special event brings Carthage families together each year to watch the beautiful fireworks displays and to celebrate freedom in America. Come early for family fun and to find great seats before the show gets started.
5. July 7-14, 2012—Jasper County Youth Fair
The annual Jasper County Youth Fair takes place from July 7th-July 14th. With 4-H exhibits, pageants, animal shows, and an annual barbecue, this event is a special opportunity for youth and teenagers in the Jasper County area. The event generally brings in 400-600 participants from local 4-H groups and Future Farmers of America chapters. At the end of the fair, participants will receive awards and honors for their hard work and special achievements.
6. July 21-22, 2012—Potter Coin & Stamp Show at Memorial Hall
The Potter Coin & Stamp Show takes place from July 21st to July 22nd at Memorial Hall. Collectors from throughout the Jasper County area and surrounding states will flock to this special event to view rare and unique items from these incredible collections. Collectors and organizers work hard throughout the year to cultivate their collections, and this is a great opportunity to share in the history and memories of their coins and stamps.
7. August 2, 2012-5, 2012—Marian Days at the Congregation for the Mother Coredemptrix
Since 1978, tens of thousands of visitors have come to Carthage during the first weekend of August for Marian Days. This special festival honors the Virgin Mary, and takes place on the campus of the Congregation of the Mother Co-Redemptrix. The event is a pilgrimage for Vietnamese American Roman Catholics, and people travel from around the country to attend. Other visitors are welcome to join the special religious ceremonies, celebrations, and nightly entertainment.
