In 1926, Route 66, the legendary trek from Chicago to L.A. passes through the heart of America, was born. The route cut the trip short by 200 miles and was the first all-weather highway in this direction. This made the route highly popular and naturally, the nearby cities and locations thrived. Carthage experienced a boom that put them on the map beyond their railroad and industry developments - it was a place to GO!

When you are putting together your itinerary for your road trip, make sure you dot Carthage as a stop on your map. While Carthage is a quiet little town in the grand scheme of Route 66, you won’t want to miss this major stop that will surely be the highlight of your trip.

Places to be

66 Drive-In Theatre

Some stops we recommend? Well the 66 Drive-In Theatre of course! The memories here span generations, with more to remember. One of the most classic drive-in theatres on the route, 66 Drive-In Theatre plays classic movies even when the box offices aren’t releasing anything. The drive in is an experience you will treasure and a timeless memory to share. Perfect for date night or family night.

The Historic Downtown Square is a must. You can see the courthouse as you approach, but you see the ornate details as you walk up to the beautiful victorian era building. Not to mention all the unique shops and boutiques for your children, both furry and human. This is one of the most happening places to be!
